Host Employer

How Group Training Works

Group Training refers to the employment of an Australian Apprentice by one company and the on-hiring of that Australian Apprentice to a Host Employer for an agreed period of time. ATEC Group Training assumes all legal employer responsibilities and administers the wages, entitlements and off-job training for the Australian Apprentice. The Host Employer provides employment, on-job training and pays for hours worked by way of fortnightly invoice and this arrangement provides a simple and flexible arrangement for the employment of Australian Apprentices.

Recruitment and Selection

The ATEC Group Training personnel have extensive collective experience in the recruitment of apprentices. We attract applicants from a number of sources including: TAFE, in-house pre-vocational programs, secondary schools, the Job Network and media advertising.

All applicants are carefully assessed, interviewed, reference checked and selected for suitability before referral to available positions.

ATEC Group Training does not charge any upfront fees to recruit and place Australian Apprentices. Once an apprentice commences with your business, you are invoiced on a fortnightly basis at a standard hourly rate for actual hours worked. All on-costs and non-productive time are factored into the hourly rate, meaning you are not invoiced for off-job training, sick leave, annual leave, public holidays or lost time due to injury.

ATEC complete all the paperwork, payroll and administration. The Host Employers only administrative duties are to sign the apprentices time sheet and to pay the invoices within 14 days.

Training

Apprentices must complete formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in order to be awarded a qualification. A standard apprenticeship involves the equivalent of 24 weeks formal, off-job training and the training program is usually offered in a block release (full week blocks) format, depending on the vocation undertaken. In most instances, ATEC will be selected to provide training in a combination of on and off-job formats resulting in a reduced overall attendance requirement, increasing the availability of the apprentice in the workplace. The most appropriate RTO will be selected based on the vocation undertaken, the apprentice's preference and the location of available RTOs.

Monitoring and Mentoring

Regular monitoring visits are conducted at  the workplace so that matters such as industrial relations issues, WorkCover, extra tuition, job performance assessments and counselling requirements etc are addressed.
No long term commitment by the hose employer is required as Group Training is about flexibility!

ATEC Group Training apprentices are available on a short or long-term hire basis, with a minimum hire term of three months to be completed during the duration of an apprenticeship (four years). Our apprentice hire contract enables you to return an apprentice by providing two weeks notice, sometimes less. Once notified we will work to find a new Host Employer placement for the apprentice to ensure continuity of employment.
